Cassie is a well dressed example of how this country’s obsession with thinness, beauty, and racial ambiguity can lead to a career in the entertainment industry. While she did have a monster of a hit single that soared all the way to #3 on the Hot 100, that number is close to the amount of copies her first album sold. You would never know this, though, given that whenever you look at pics of a major event there she is.
She's here.
She's there.
She's everywhere.
Why?
Me thinks Miss “Just Tell Me How You Like It” convinced Mr. “Take That, Take That” into giving her an all access pass to every major social event in the country. I wonder how.
I can’t be mad at her for trying to keep her name and pretty face out there, but I can be mad at her doing so as a singer and not as America’s Next Top Model.
Back when she was appearing on 106 and Park doing what looked like a homage to the stiff and tone deaf people of the world, pieces were written in defense of her as an artist (HA!)…which I was happy to refute.
Since then, I’ve re-listened to some of her songs, and while I will admit that a few are indeed catchy and have a certain appeal to them, the game hasn’t change: She can’t sing worth diddly. At all. Not even in a little bit. I doubt that she can even hum correctly. That tidbit about her talent or lack thereof is not going to stop her show, though.
Here she is talking over a beat singing the song she contributed to the Step Up 2 soundtrack called, “Is It You?” If this were performed at Mrs. Chambers Third Grade Class Talent Show at Martin Luther King elementary, I would say her Chipette vocals could evolve into something as she gets older.
Word to Brittany.
But she’s grown, and if that’s all you can do with the Protools touch, there’s no hope. As pretty as she is, pretty won’t stop my ears from bleeding.
Her second album is on the horizon, but one has to wonder: Do the pretty untalented girls of the world really need yet another role model? How long will it take her to bow out of the game and head to Fashion Week?
Happy 2008, ya'll! I was going to kick off the year with something warm and fuzzy that would make early 90s Mariah Carey proud, but I'm compelled by the evil spirits of stupidity.
Have people not learned that MySpace is the devil (readers feel free to hit me up, though)? Beyonce's little sister and this decade's answer to Ray-J, Solange, has something to say about all of you haters people with sense on her MySpace blog.
I've probably already lost your attention because this is about the Knowles not named Beyonce, but here are a few highlights from the low life's entry.
(please exuse my typos, im not writing a literature essay to get into harvard. just a happy new years wish to everyone this will b one big run on sentence!
I hate when people start off ramblings with this. There's no need to point out you paid more attention to Beyonce at rehearsal than you did in English. We can tell.
On her New Year's Resolution:
use my middle finger alot more. i always think what person did that gesture and made it so famous for saying "f*ck you''! why wasnt it a pinky or a thumb? lol but scince it does mean those clever two words i want to do it alot more. its neccesary to be happy in life. if you think about some of the most great and succesfull people and artist..... prince, oprah, bill gates, basquiat, andy warhol, murakami, michael jackson, kayne west, oh this list could go on forever.... they all had to say it once or twice in their lifetime. people are always gonna try and tear u down for your individuality, your creative drive, you personal choices and all the little things that make you you! people rag on me for everything, from my choices in shoes and lipstick color all the way up to my hair! but at the end of the day YOU have to be happy with YOU!
"Scince?" She did warn me. I hope Papa Knowles bought little Daniel and Solange Hooked on Phonics for Christmas. Solange has always been a little cocky somebody who would walk around Houston saying "Do you know who I am?" as if anyone cared. This is before Beyonce herself blew up, mind you. Now she wants the haters to cease and desist. Try getting fans first.
Look, I bought her album for $5.99, so despite Solange typically looking like "Who did it and why?" and "No really, who did that to you?" she has a degree of musical talent. Wasting time throwing out incoherent ramblings isn't going to get her any notice for it, though. If you don't care about people, you don't waste your time constantly addressing people's criticisms. If they don't matter, they just don't. Do you and do it well. This is why some people need to go start a journal in the new year.
Oh yeah, that part about individuality:
i want to be like the black bjork!
Zoom. Look at her go be herself. She needs to turn this video up really high:
She types like her keyboard gets high, and that makes me uncomfortable. That explains why she writes about white sheep, ex pills, and other nonsense. Please let her child have loads of Dr. Suess on deck.
Now that she's achieved her greatest accomplishment in life - duplicating Lil Kim's fuck up - Foxy 'Don't Call Me Doo Doo' Brown is reaching out to her fans. Gavin, Spragga, the members of the Fox Boogie message board (if it's still up), ya'll out there?
Brown's camp has set something up for ya'll.
Fans of incarcerated rapper Foxy Brown will now be able to communicate directly with her via a newly launched website.
www.freefoxybrown.com will feature up-to-the-minute updates on the rapper, who was personally involved in creating the content contained on the site.
Up-to-the-minute updates? From prison? Why does anyone need to know what time she ate a bologna sandwich at Rikers? Or how many lies she told during the hour they let her out of her cell?
The new website is the latest achievement for the rapper, who has released three solo albums and been featured on songs by LL Cool J, Nas, Case and Toni Braxton.
Don't laugh. That's mean.
"I devoted my career to building an affinity with my fans who have supported me unflinchingly and no barbed wire fence or prison wall will stop that," Brown said in a statement. "I am in great spirits and very focused, and needed a forum to communicate to the people."
I think I'll write her.
Dear Inga,
Have we learned anything yet? Do you we understand that it's important to obey the law and not steal, lie, or swing at a Korean? Have we fully grasped that only rich blonds in LA can get away with the type of nonsense you tried to pull? Will we stop faking pregnancies once we're released for good behavior? Are we going to act like sane law abiding citizens now? And since I have your attention, will you knock it off with the purple lipstick? Now-and-later lips aren't sexy.
Have someone send me my Free Fox Boogie t-shirt.
And just because I used to like your work, I'm going to drop you some reading material.
I'm all for self-esteem, but sometimes people get beside themselves. I know I'm supposed to respect my elders, but I think someone should sit Aretha Franklin down and give her some perspective. In an interview with People, the Queen of Soul discussed among many things, her upcoming made-for-television film based on her autobiography, From These Roots.
Who'll play you? I'm not sure yet. Jennifer Hudson came to read for me. I also have an interest in Halle Berry possibly doing it. And Fantasia.
Halle Berry? Really, Aretha? Do you honestly think Halle Berry looks like you?
I know, I know. She's a diva. It's her world and I'm just waiting for her to sing in it. But Halle Berry? Anyone that's spent time in interviews discussing their love for pig's feet knows Halle Berry can't play them. C'mon nah.
I can see Halle playing the right side of her, but who's going to play the rest?
"Call Me" is one of my all-time favorite songs, particularly the live version that I'm still grateful that my great friend bought for me, but I don't love it enough to forget that Jabba The Hut is more fit to portray Aretha than Halle Berry. Yogi Bear even.
And before anyone gets on me, yes I realize Aretha used to be a lot slimmer, but there aren't enough cheese biscuits from Red Lobster in the world to bribe me into believing that Halle Berry should play Aretha Franklin. That would be lying and lying is wrong.
Besides, I don't think Halle would do the role any justice. Try a newcomer. Let someone new get a chance to shine, Re-Re.
